Welcome to our Local Bite Mini Challenges!
Your challenge this week is to pick one new-to-you, locally grown item from the Farmers Market, local Co-op, road-side stand or UPick Farm and enjoy it however you see fit! Then, come back here and comment (or join the conversation in our Facebook group), letting us know what item you picked and how you prepared it!
If you would like to further challenge yourself (like I will be), you can pick one new item every single week of the challenge. By doing so, you will have 14 new-to-you items at the end of the challenge that you’ve tried and hopefully enjoyed 🙂
xoxo,
M

Again today not trying anything new…Pork chops (hog raised by my grandson here on the ranch), rice pilaf (our rice, almonds, butter, herbs and home raised/canned chicken stock), canned corn (raised and canned here at the ranch), big salad (from the garden), bread (homegrown and milled wheat, honey)…I made the butter from raw Jersey milk I get from a neighbor. Life is good on the farm.
We cooked an unusual fish on the grill. Caught out of the Gulf of Mexico on Friday by our uncle. On Saturday we cooked the cleaned fish whole but split on the gas grill outside. We seasoned it with salt and ol bay seafood seasoning. It turned out very tasty.
Don’t laugh but NONE of those things are even open by us yet 🙁 –Upstate NY, and so there isn’t anything around “new to us” yet. However, I will find something local and share a good recipe for it 🙂 There’s always NY apples around lol…
Mmmm…apples! Yes, one thing is totally fine, even if it’s not new 🙂 Can’t wait to see your recipe!
