Local Bite Mini Challenge ::: Week Nine ::: Food Origins

Local Bite Mini Challenge ::: Week Nine ::: Food Origins

Welcome to our ninth Local Bite Mini Challenge!

This week we are focusing on Food Origins.

By now, we’ve all heard the statistic that the average meal in the U.S. travels an average of 1500 miles from farm to table (please enlighten me if you have the stats for your own country).  This fact is incredibly sobering to me and was the basis of this whole challenge.  However, in this challenge, I don’t expect you to learn where everything you eat actually comes from.  I would like for you, instead, to pick one or two of your favorite items and do a little research on them.  Once you find out how far they’ve traveled to get to you, I challenge you to assess how you might offset some of those miles to help create a smaller carbon footprint.  Then, come back here and comment (or join the conversation in our Facebook group), letting us know what you learned and decided about your item(s).

Now, of course I’m going to ask…Have you been participating in the extension of Week One’s Mini Challenge, One Item? If you would like to continue to further challenge yourself (beyond this weeks challenge or the previous weeks challenges), you can do so throughout the entirety of the 100 day challenge by simply picking one new item every single week of the challenge. If you’ve been participating in this aspect of the challenge, you should have up to eight new-to-you items you have experienced and can talk about!  Please tell me all about what you’ve tried!  I find myself in such a rut with food, you just might inspire me 🙂

Good luck this week!  Happy researching!

xoxo,
M
