If we were having coffee…

If we were having coffee…

If we were having coffee…

I’d greet you with a big fat hug and tell you how wonderful it is to see you!

It’s lightly snowing outside again so we’d find a cozy nook to catch up in.

I’d ask how you’ve been…how your family’s doing…how work is going? And we’d dive straight in to Catch Up Mode because, gosh it’s been too long and how can we possibly catch up on all.the.things over a single coffee?

The truth is, we can’t. But it’s a start, and we’ll have to be better about getting together more often.

If we were having coffee…

I’d ask how your holidays went? Did you travel? Spend time with family or friends?

I’d tell you then about our multiple Christmas celebrations across two states. The first here at home with my family (on Christmas Eve), the rest in Missouri (beginning on Christmas Day) with Kim’s family. It was a whirlwind trip filled with lots of activity. Ember had a blast seeing all of her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, and grandpa for the first time in years. She especially loved playing with her cousins and hanging out at her Great Grandma’s but that may have had something to do with all the sugar involved 😉

If we were having coffee…

Then, I’d ask if you have any big plans for 2019? Do you make Resolutions? Establish a word for the year?

I’d talk about my intentions (not resolutions) to read and write more and travel a bit.

I might mention my focus on continued healing (from the bigger auto-immune & pain challenges of the past year and a half) and from my most recent norovirus attack that kicked off the year (renewed gut health for the win)!

I’d talk about our intention to find the groove around farm tasks & chores so they don’t feel so daunting all the time which would lead to our thoughts around thinning our goat herd a bit in order to fine-tune our milk lines and cut down on feed costs.

Lastly, I would mention the need to cull down our flock a bit and add in some new layers. For the first time since we began keeping chickens nine years ago we didn’t add to the flock in 2018. Not only do I miss fluffy chick butts, but our egg supply has been spotty as we have several older hens that are no longer producing (and yet are costing us an arm and a leg in feed costs). Our ducks, to the contrary, are doing a wonderful job bringing new life (and new layers) onto the farm 🙂

If we were having coffee…

I’d ask if you’ve read any good books lately? Or maybe you have a stack sitting by your bed like I do that you’re slowly (or rapidly) making your way through?

I’ve struggled with reading and completing books for years! However, I found my reading groove again last year and am determined to keep it up! The Winter months make it easy to play catch up so I’m hoping to cross at least a few books off my reading list in the coming months.

Right now I’m about a third of the way through the second GOT books, A Clash of Kings. I love this series and am determined to plow through the whole set. I also have To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins at my bedside for the nights I need something just a bit lighter and am enjoying his adventure so far.

If we were having coffee…

It’d be time to say goodbye and head back home. The snow is picking up and I’ve got quite the drive.

Thank you so much for spending a bit of time with me!

‘Til next time, stay safe, stay cozy, and be good to yourself.

xoxo,
M

I’m catching up on blog posts but love the book mention. Are you on goodreads? That has really helped keep me in the “book groove” as I can set reading goals, track what I read, and see what friends are reading. If you’re on it, I’d love to add you as a friend there. Hi to all!

Hi! It’s nice to see you in the coffee share again. It sounds like you had a good Christmas, but I’m sorry you were sick at the beginning of the year. I know that the work is never done on a farm, but it sounds like you are enjoying the challenge. I hope you have a great week!

I’ve missed you! I love these posts of yours so much. We are having similar issues re: ducks and chickens!

Hi Kris! I’ve missed you, too! Thank you for following along and sharing a cuppa 🙂 Oh, poultry! Will you be getting a new batch of chicks this spring? Any favorite breeds? We’ll probably stick to the easter eggers we love so much 😉 Hope your 2019 is off to an awesome start!
