Early Apricot Blossoms

With two full months to go before our guaranteed last frost date, I’ve found myself incredibly torn by the pure beauty of these apricot blossoms (tickling my already antsy Spring Fever) and the acknowledgement that, unless we have a phenomenally warm spring with no frosts or freezes, these gorgeous flowers this early in March means we probably won’t get an Apricot harvest (again) this year.

Boo.

Because, as much as I love these pink whispers, the fruits are truly my favorite.

Alas, only time will tell.

What are the trees doing in your neck of the woods?

Ugh, we deal with this every year in our climate in Northern Nevada. I always love to see the blossoms, but also hate it when they come too early since it means we don’t normally get fruit that year. Have you ever tried protecting them after they’ve blossomed? Don’t know if it’s possible or not, but it’s on our minds once our new trees start producing.

Maridy, it’s so hard, isn’t it?! If it’s going to freeze at night and the majority of buds haven’t actually blossomed yet, you can spray the tree down with water and it will protect the buds that night…if they’ve already flowered you can try to cover the trees with a sheet or with freeze cloth, but it’s a matter of how large the tree is and how much area can get covered. You can also wrap Christmas lights around the tree if it’s small enough and the lights will raise the temps just enough of it’s not a deep freeze. It’s all a lot of work…especially when we’re talking *months before we’re guaranteed no frosts 🙁 yes…ugh is right!

Our apple trees are still shut up tight- which is good we are only half done with the pruning!!!

Oh yay!!! Hopefully they’ll all hold out and you’ll have a phenomenal harvest! 🙂

“All over the place crazy” is the perfect definition of our weather, too. I will be hoping for fruits for you, too, Norma!

Your blossoms are beautiful! But I’m sorry they won’t amount to much 🙁 makes mindfulness, being in the now so much more important right? 😉 The trees here are changing…to fall/autumn! Even though our summer has stayed very warm and incredibly dry at the end…there are trees dressing up in tinges of their finest reds already. My neighbours birches are already almost bare! Spring blossoms are literally a world away from me! May they last for you and may, by luck you get some fruits 🙂

Oh! Thank you for the reminder about being mindful and present in this moment! I needed to hear this 🙂 Your autumn sounds as though it’s already off to a lovely start?! I can see the reds and golds in my minds eye!

With Spring hitting and some heated up days coming up, I hope to see some of the trees start to change. During the Winter it’s awfully depressing, so I can’t wait to see green on the land again!

I am ready for some green as well! Hoping you’ll get your fix soon 🙂
