June Challenges – An Update

June Challenges – An Update

Today marks the midway point of two of my three current challenges so I thought it would be the perfect time to let you all know how I’m doing!  Here goes:

Blogathon – I have to admit that, while I have actually posted every day so far this month (even a couple of times on a couple of days), there have definitely been days that I did not want to post at all!  Either uninspired, just plain tired or rushed for time, I could have probably not published posts in this space at least three out of the last 15 days. But, I did it anyway!  I rallied, punched some keys, formatted at least one picture per post and got it done!  WooHoo!

Now, unless there is a major catastrophe, I anticipate this being an easy challenge to fully succeed at 🙂

In case you missed them, here are just a couple of highlights from my posts over the last two weeks:

All in all, I’d say it was a fantastic 15 days 🙂

Rewild Your Life – Now, here is where things get a bit dicey.  While it may seem like a no-brainier to spend 30 minutes outside (with intention), there have definitely been days in which this has proven to be a bit of a challenge! Here’s the break down of what’s been done to date:

  1. Several hours in the garden, planting, hand watering (with buckets from our rain barrels), taking care of the chickens, playing with Sprout and recording my June 1st Farm Tour
  2. About an hour in the garden, taking photos, observing all of the veggie seed germination rates, checking the chickens and just tooling around
  3. Spent a couple of hours working on the computer outside while preparing lessons for a gardening program I am facilitating with ~150 girls ages 5-14 this summer over the course of six weeks. Then, came home, checked on the chickens and did a quick walk through of the garden
  4. About an hour in the Camp Garden  transplanting some donated starts into empty spaces, mapping what’s already been directly sown and which spaces still need to be filled with the girls help. Spent a few minutes taking care of the chickens once home
  5. Worked inside all.day.long. Literally, what was supposed to be a much shorter day, turned into a nine hour day at a desk working, working, working.  Came home crabby, wanting nothing more than to just climb into bed. Luckily, Kim spotted a few ripe strawberries and called me outside to enjoy the harvest! Then, we spotted a bullying buff in the coop and decided to separate her from the rest of the flock…which took a whole hour just by itself.
  6. Spent about a half hour checking the garden and spot watering, plus checked on and took care of the chickens
  7. Watered the garden before going to the Farmers Market for our Local Bite shopping, then ran errands all day long.  Total time spent outside? Maybe an hour and a half, including the market.  Less time than I had hoped.
  8. Spent about an hour and a half outside, checking on the chickens, checking germination, transplanting a few tomatoes and reseeding areas where seeds haven’t germinated
  9. Wandered and watered the garden + finalized prep for the Camp Garden and for working with the girls for the first time
  10. One hour working with 6 year olds in the Camp Garden, plus check on the chickens once home
  11. Two hours working with 5 – 8 year olds in the Camp Garden
  12. Woke up with a headache that quickly morphed into a migraine.  The only time spent outside on this day was to give the chickens some fresh water and then run to to Walgreens to grab some infant Tylenol for Sprout who was also having a very rough day caused by a very bad teething day
  13. A few minutes outside assessing the garden before a big storm rolled in
  14. Hours in the garden, reseeding, transplanting, pulling weeds and patching some drip irrigation.  We also attended a Farm to Table fundraiser at a Farm up north of us!  Stay tuned for a whole post on that coming in the next few days!
  15. Morning tea in the garden

So, as it seems, I don’t usually spend as much time outside on a daily basis as I would like to think!  I can’t guarantee that the next two weeks will be better, but I truly intend to try!

All in all, not a horrible showing though, right?!  Now, please wish me luck for the remainder of these challenges 😉

xoxo,
M
