The spuds are in!
50 pounds of Golden Globes, an alternative to Yukon Gold, went into the ground last weekend, our biggest planting yet.
We ordered a bit late so didn’t have a ton of options available to us but decided that the Golden Globes (an alternative to Yukon Golds) sounded yummy and should keep well enough through the coldest months if we do have a good harvest.
Here are the details on the Golden Globes:
- Mid Season
- 85-100 days
- Round tubers with yellow skin and yellow flesh
- High/medium set
- Fairly firm texture after cooking
- Good mashed
- Good storability
We planted in four ~70 foot rows, spacing them all roughly a foot apart and four inches deep.
After much debate we decided to do a combo of flood and drip irrigation in an effort to chase off the gophers with the flood and keep ourselves water wise with the drip (which will be installed this weekend).
Time will tell if it works to keep the critters at bay, but I’m hopeful.
Now we wait, irrigate, and cultivate in the hopes of turning 50 pounds into ~500!
Do tell, what’s your favorite way to eat potatoes? Are you growing any potatoes this year?

Thank you for sharing with your family! It’s our biggest attempt yet, so we’re very excited 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying a lovely week!
