Apple Tree Bird

Yes this post could also be called:

Melissa Really Needs to Work on Her Identification Skills 😉

Regardless of my challenges, I am so happy to have finally captured a photo (two!) of this lovey bird!  Bouncing from branch to branch, calling out it’s sweet song for well over a month now, I have tried without success to capture a shot of this beauty for just as long!

Sweet thing has a nest inside one of our Apple Trees (hence my piss poor naming of such a pretty bird) and is dutifully coming and going, tending and protecting, foraging and feeding.

Now, can anyone tell me the proper name for this gorgeous creature?

I’ve tried looking it up online using it’s colors and our location (New Mexico), but haven’t found anything that looks right.

Thanks in advance for your shared knowledge and for your patience with my ignorance!

  1. It is a nuthatch. I like to call them my upside down bird because
they are almost always upside down going down a tree.

    1. Ha! They *are always upside down! 🙂

    1. Oh how wonderful!!! Thank you, Jessie!!!
