If we were having coffee...

If we were having coffee…

If we were having coffee, I’d greet you with a big hug and a warm smile!  It’s been too long since we last caught up, I apologize for my absence and I am so very happy to see you!

If we were having coffee, we’d get ourselves comfortable with mugs in hand and I would ask you how you’re doing?  How are work and life in general?  Are you happy? Treating yourself kindly?

I might tell you that I’ve been burning the candle at both ends and quite fried, but working very hard to re-establish some personal/work boundaries and be a bit gentler with myself 🙂

Then, I’d ask what the weather has been like in your neck of the woods? We’ve had a glorious Spring so far…until yesterday of course! April thought it’d play a nice little April Fools joke on us by laying down a layer of snow on top of everything…including all of our fruit blossoms! If I had to wager a guess, I’d say we lost about 1/3 of our potential fruit yesterday. Total bummer, but there’s still the other 2/3 to be hopeful for.

If were having coffee, I’d tell you that this past week was a doozy! Between work stress (for both of us), a super crabby/teething toddler, and some severe plumbing issues, I’m so very grateful for the weekend! The plumbing was (gratefully) fixed last night, so we’ll be playing catch up with dishes ad laundry, working on the property to get the irrigation all in line, up-potting tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants, sowing seeds in flats and in the ground and enjoying the company of neighbors and a friends.

Oh!  Did I tell you that the acequia was turned on this week?!  So very exciting to have water again!  So many readers have had so many phenomenal questions that I’m pulling together a post that will explain a bit about acequias in general as well as how our Village acequia works specifically.

I’d also mention that, with E running around at warp speed, we’re quite terrified to have water running straight through the upper property and have been very diligent about keeping her close and talking to her about safety and danger.  There’s an underlying stress here now that I’m not sure I can properly convey, but it is real and tangible. (((sigh)))

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that we have just submitted our Lease Renewal and will officially stay on the property for another two years!  We are stoked to know that we can plan out our needs and wants for the next two years and put down some more roots (literally and figuratively) on the property and in the community.

Then, I might mention that our Muscovy duck, Kitty, has now laid eleven eggs and is beginning to feather her nest!  Next comes a bit of down and then her actually sitting on them!  Once she begins sitting on her clutch, we’ll be counting the days (about 35) until we’ll have some little ducklings running around!!!

We’ve never had babies born on our farm before, so this prospect is almost as exciting as the kids Mama will be delivering at the same time! Yes, it’s all coming to a head with Mama being due to kid (officially) on May 7th and there being 36 days between today and May 7th 🙂  We just might have a very active weekend that weekend!

In the meantime, however, we need to clean out the goat shed, build a kidding area, pull together a few First Aid items (just in case there are any complications while Mama kids (surely, though, there won’t be any complications), as well as about 500 other To-Do items to completed this spring.

Speaking of which, I’d better go and get a start on this weekend’s list!

Thank you so much for sharing a cuppa with me!  It’s always nice to catch up!  Let’s plan to get together more often, OK?!

I hope you have a wonderful day, a lovely weekend, and a glorious week ahead!

xoxo,
M

  1. Busy times! Congrats on the lease renewal. Hoping that the weather settles down a bit for you, too!

    1. Thank you, Diana! Hope you’re having a great week!

    1. Me too! I am so very hopeful and willing be holding my breathe for at least another 5 or 6 weeks. Time will tell 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!!!

    1. It’s easy to forget 🙂 Hope you have a great week!

  2. We had almost a full week of absolutely gorgeous weather. However it is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Some weather reports have us in the eighties and dry at midweek. That’s so, I think I will be spending a lot of park time with my grandsons. I hope your week is super!

    1. Park time sounds absolutely perfect! I may have to sneak in some of that as well 🙂 Enjoy every minute!

  3. Oh congratulations on the lease renewal!!! I’m so happy for you guys 🙂 I’m joining you with coffee here in Australia. It’s a misty autumn morning here and I will be taking my kids and the dogs for a run on the oval shortly.

I saw the water and little E with one of her mums and I was like…gah! It’s not fenced off!! Does anyone fence their acequia? I’d be freaking out all the time at that one too.

It sounds like you’ve been busy and will continue to be busy as Spring develops! We’re slowly winding down here, gardening but less intense. I’m hoping your snow fall doesn’t impact on those fruits too much.

Nice to share that coffee this morning 🙂

    1. Hi Linda! Thanks for sharing a cuppa and catching up! I hope your walk was absolutely lovely!

Some people have their acequia fenced off or on further away on their properties, but it’s always a worry when Little Ones are around!

I hope your fall falls gently 🙂 I do love the slower pace of fall along with such wonderful abundance!

  4. Hugs back to you. Success with the animals and their young. What an exciting time. Yes water running through the irrigation ditches can be a worrying time. Every year someone dies in one of
Our ditches. There are two main canals to serve the Boise Valley. Many are covered with open areas to allow air and a place for animals to get water. I don’t think the water has been turned on this year yet. About the middle of this month.

    1. Yes, we have heard local horror stories and are determined to not become one of them!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and week ahead!

  5. It sounds like you’ve been very busy. I can understand the stress of having the little one around the open water. Ducklings and kids early May: sounds like you’ll be even busier then!

Thanks for the coffee. have a great week!
