The first duck egg!

I kid you not…

Less than 24 hours after bringing home our ducks, we were gifted with our very first duck egg! I guess our pair is settling in nicely and enjoying their new digs just fine 🙂

We were all so surprised and so excited about it that we headed straight inside to cook it up and see how delicious it was…

Except that I, of course, wanted to take a picture of it first, which E was not happy about at all!

There were tears and some yelling about how it was her egg while I snapped just a couple of photos on my phone before handing it back to her…

(Mind you, I wasn’t trying to make her angry or sad, she simply couldn’t be in the pictures because she was half naked from stripping down to get in the duck pool we got for them today…which was very cold and she only stood in for about 30 seconds.)

But she was still so angry at me for taking it from her that this is the face she made pretty much the whole time we cooked it up…

But really, who can blame her, right?  It was all very exciting!

And so, the verdict on the taste?

Rich…intense…delicious.

No wonder people pay high dollar for such things!

We, however, are planning on a few ducklings in the near future so we won’t be eating many in the days and weeks ahead…

Unless, of course, E gets to them before we do each day 😉

xoxo,
M

P.S.
Before we realized that an egg had been laid, I witnessed our drake mounting his mate and, shortly thereafter, saw my very first duck penis…which might just be the weirdest thing on the planet.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Google it.  I warn you though, it’s one of those things that can’t be unseen.
