If we were having coffee, I would greet you with open arms and thank you for joining me today!
How are you? How’s your week been? Is life treating you well? What’s the weather been like in your neck of the woods? What have you been up to since we were last able to catch up?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that it’s been a bit of a rough week…one of those weeks when nothing quite sits right/happens as you might like/works out smoothly. It was one of those weeks where there were more complaints coming in than gratefulness or positivity. It was one of those weeks where every single day felt like a Monday…hiccups everywhere, chaos ensuing, ridiculousness around each corner. One of those weeks that I actually purchased a lottery ticket and thought, “You know, I don’t even need the Jackpot. Just let me win enough to be able to stop working and I’ll be happy”. One of those weeks that involved broken glass all over the kitchen floor and potty training poop disasters at.the.same.time!
Also, we had a very sick toddler (who held onto her strong willed intensity throughout) to contend with.
So that was fun…
And now I’m glad it’s over!
Surely it was just a glitch in the system and things will be back to “normal” next week, right?
Right.
If we were having coffee, I might mention that I’m in the planning and very beginning stages of tweaking this old blog of mine to accommodate some information about my photography and paintings so as to offer a landing page to those who are interested in my work both virtually as well as in real life.
I debated using this site or starting up a separate one so I looked into purchasing the domain for my full name and decided it wasn’t worth the (extreme) cost when I have this here website I’ve been working on for years! So, I cleaned up my Tabs up top (there are only two right now!), re-worked my About page, am cleaning up a few other pages, and have begun to pull together both a Photography page and an Art page all in an effort to lay the foundation to put myself out there as an actual Artist.
Incredibly exciting and thoroughly terrifying!
And so, there are many details to consider and begin figuring out, but in the meantime, I’m organizing and editing photos while eeking out precious hours to devote to painting.
Two weeks ago, after a particularly rough work day, I exclaimed to my wife that I am ready to start making an income from my art and so I was headed to an arts and crafts store to see if canvases might be on sale and grab a couple. Luckily (amazingly!) for me, they were actually having a phenomenal sale and so I got 19 canvases for ~$40!
19 canvases for $43!
Unheard of!
So, I took it as a positive sign from the Universe that I should paint more and talk about it less 🙂
Do tell, what have you created recently? Are you writing/painting/drawing/(fill in the blank) as much as you’d like to these days?
If we were having coffee, I’d say that I’m not quite sure how we’re sitting all the way at the end of January already! Where’d the month go?!
I might mention that we reached out to our Landlady about renewing our lease (it’s up at the end of March) for up to two years since we love it so much here and hope to continue working on our skills until we find our Forever Farm. We are hopeful she’s been as happy with us on her property and we’ve been here, and will let you know when we know more. In the meantime, please keep your fingers crossed for us! I cannot imagine moving again any time soon and will really benefit from putting down some roots for a while!
If we were having coffee, I’d ask what you have on tap for the coming days? We’re anticipating a few days of storms beginning tomorrow and leading through mid-week, so are grateful for our neighbor who was able to bring us some more wood this afternoon ( as well as share a couple of beers). Stew will go on the stove to keep us warm as the sunshine of today (it was so incredibly gorgeous today…blue skies and 61*!) shifts into the rain of tomorrow and the snow (?) and plummeting temps of the next few days. We also ordered some more propane which should be delivered early in the week which will help us against that close-to-zero temps forecasted mid-week.
I might also mention that my wife turns 37 on Wednesday so we’re excitedly planning a day off together without E (yes, we’ll actually drop her off at pre-school) to go be grown ups for the day! We’re thinking maybe a hot tub and some good food, though nothing is written in stone yet.
If we were having coffee, it would be time to hit the road and get on with the weekend!
Thank you so much for spending some time here with me! Know that I look forward to catching up with you again soon! Take good care and stay cozy out there!
xoxo,
M

Melissa, hope your lease gets extended as I can see how much you love it there and have made it your home.
All the best with the painting and art projects. It sounds like your real passion so go for it. Find out where it takes you.We had a good line for an Australian tourism ad; “you’ll never ever known if you never ever go.”

Thank you so much, Rowena! I love that line and know it to be true!
Thank you also for the positive wishes for us to be able to stay here for a while longer! I sura am hopeful 🙂
Good luck and congrats for the decision to put your art out there! It’s a scary feeling but well worth it! Now that the January clean and tidy is finished, I get to start writing again! Can’t wait. I get a little twitchy if I go too long without using my imagination!
Happy b-day to your wife! I’m not a cake person either. Ice cream and wine work better for me to celebrate with – not together, of course!!
ps. I love the pics of your dog. My BF has a great pyrenees and I love her to death!
Thank you so much, Holly! It’s always good to hear from those who are pursuing heir dreams and making it work!!! Good luck jumping back in the saddle (though I doubt you need it)! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Can’t wait to see more art! I haven’t been writing as much as I like as I had to clear the way first by giving up some freelance work, which I’ve done. Hoping this week starts more creative writing time again.
Have a fun birthday celebration with your wife! I’m all for anything that involves cake. There will be cake, right? 🙂

So glad you’re getting some writing in, Tara! Such a good feeling!
Unfortunately, Kim isn’t a cake person! There will, however, be cookies 🙂
I’m glad to see the tail end of this stinking week too! Happy Birthday to your wife, you guys have tons of fun.
I hope you get to stay at your farm a little while longer.

Oh, I hope we get to stay, too! Such a stress, this waiting to chat with about it all, but I’m trusting it will all be just fine 🙂
Hope this next week is absolutely phenomenal for you!
I’m looking forward to seeing more of your art on line. I’ve enjoyed what you’ve posted. Happy birthday to your wife. I hope it’s just one good day in a great week!
Thank you, Trent, on all accounts 🙂 Have a great week!
Happy birthday to your wife! I hope the day off is a blast. 🙂
Thank you, Deb! I trust it will be 🙂
