If we were having coffee I’d hug you big and thank you for meeting me out in the hustle and bustle of holiday prep! Then, I’d ask how you’re doing and what your plans are for Christmas (if you celebrate) and ringing in 2016? I’d then tell you that we’re planning to stay home for at least the next week to prep, rest, recharge, and practice some serious self-care.
We spent a good amount of time this past week shopping (both online and in actual, people flooded stores) getting our last minute Christmas gifts and, I have to admit, I really don’t like the process of it at all. The people, the anxiety, the cost…it’s supposed to be a fun, positive thing, right? So, I’m so very glad to be done with it and E will be so happy on Christmas morning and I’m super hopeful my oldest daughter’s special gift arrives from Australia on time, because I think she’ll be happy, too 🙂
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that we picked up Mama Mello from her Stud (sex) Date yesterday and are so very hopeful she has at least one itty bitty baby brewing in her womb right now! I also think that since she birthed triplets a year ago we should start taking bets as to how many kids she may give us this year!
What do you think, should we make a game of it?
On the other hand, I’d probably mention that Akuna has truly become a Master Escape Artist and I’m terrified she’ll go into heat and get knocked up by some mutt in the village. You might ask why we haven’t gotten her fixed…and the answer would be that we hope to eventually get her knocked up by some studly LGD and be able to sell a few pups to local farms and homesteads since there’s really no one in NM who does so.
No, no, no, not some puppy mill! Just a few pups, maybe a couple of litters in her lifetime, and a few extra dollars in our pockets to help pay for the massive amounts of food she goes through. Regardless, she’s not ready yet (hasn’t even had her first cycle), but still, I worry.
If we were having coffee I’d ask if you have plans for Solstice or to watch the full moon rise on Christmas? It’s the first full moon on Christmas we’ve seen in 38 years and while I’ve never had an incredible affinity for moon gazing until recently, the pull is strong and I’ve found myself thoroughly enjoying the quiet moments of the early evening.
Back to Solstice for a minute because, again, it’s not been something I’ve ever intentionally observed, but I so want to this year! I’d like to bundle up, build a big, fat bonfire, maybe pour myself a nice whiskey, and intentionally recognize the shift in seasons and longer days to come (more minutes of light!). So, do tell, do you have a ritual you observe or are you a newbie like me to the recognition of subtle shifts and ancient traditions?
If we were having coffee I might mention that I finally finished my Sky Blanket and have now begun painting again! I’m working on the triptych I mentioned weeks and weeks ago and am happy with the start so far! I am so glad to have the opportunity to create again…as I’ve said before, it’s been way too long and my spirit was craving some hands on artistic energy.
I’ve also found that I’m craving some serious organization in my life. I don’t do well with chaos and the chaos hidden behind closed doors (mostly in the closets and the pantry) are driving me nuts! So, part of my plan over the next couple of weeks is to go through areas, one at a time, pull everything out, purge some and tidy the rest all up. I’ll get as far as I can and am actually excited about it because…you know…being able to actually find what you’re looking for quickly when you’re looking for it is a very good thing 🙂
Now, if we were having coffee it’d be time for me to go. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed catching up and look forward to the next time we can chat!
Take good care of yourself and know that you’re appreciated!
xoxo,
M

Self-care. I’m doing that myself. Taking off from blogging, etc., taking the whole week off from work which I haven’t done in years. YAY! I also didn’t know about the full moon on Christmas. Thanks for telling me. I think I’ll take that sight in. 🙂
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Happy new year! See you again soon.

It’s easy to forget that we must care for ourselves before we can care for *anyone else. Enjoy your time!
Sounds like your ever growing farm is going to be growing even more… We don’t really have a solstice celebration of any type, we just wait those extra days until Christmas. Perhaps it is something. Thinking of a full moon on Christmas, do you remember Christmas 2000 when there was a partial eclipse on Christmas? On the east coast it was just a sliver of sun left – very cool.
Have a great week, happy solstice and a merry Christmas!
