Nine years ago today, Kim and I called it “official” and intentionally began our lives together.
The past nine years have included two daughters, four homes, and this crazy, ever-growing journey of ours from a life built in the city to one growing in the country with more dreams for our future than can ever be counted.
And now, as if this year wasn’t busy enough as it is with the toddler, the moves, the poultry, the garden, and the goats, we’ve decided to go ahead and get married, too!
There wasn’t a formal proposal (much to my future-official sister-in-law’s disappointment) as we are more Realists than Romantics.
The truth is we’ve been talking about it for years…
But there were laws to contend with and adoptions to finalize and debates to be had about an actual ceremony vs. a courthouse wedding vs. an elopement of sorts…
And then it just finally felt like the right time to make the legal commitment to each other as a nice addition to all of the other commitments we’ve already made over the past nine years…
You know, an official, legal validation of the endless love and support of each other in addition to the raising of children, keeping of homes, and tending of livestock.
And so, with a quick turnaround and a tight budget, we’re DIYing everything under the sun and planning our very own farm wedding!
Certain that next the five (!!!) weeks will fly by, we are doing our best to trust that everything will work out just as it should and that everything will be perfect.
It will be small, it will be unique, it will be perfect.
I promise to share as much of the prep and planning as I can muster in this space and on Instagram as we lead up to the official day (39 days and counting!!!) though I truly wish there were more hours in each day to do all of the things I want to do…
And need to do…
Like figuring out what we’re going to wear…
And picking out rings…
And finalizing food, beverages, and decorations…
And making lists of all the farm chores that need to happen to have a big, fat, lesbian wedding on this gorgeous piece of property we have the privilege of calling “home”…
And doing our best to be present with each other every single day as we lead up to this one, big day.
WooHoo!
Cheers, everyone! Wish us luck <3
Oh, and hey! If you have experience with a Farm Wedding or have any tips, tricks or ideas for us as we plan and DIY ourselves silly over the next several weeks, please feel free to share them with me!

Wonderful news – congratulations! I hosted a farm wedding at our farm for my MIL and my number one tip is: HIRE A MARIACHI BAND. Seriously. It was awesome. Ok, actual tips: get a tent (it rained on us very unexpectedly in the morning but the tent stayed dry), even if you do all of the food for the rehearsal dinner, etc. splurge for a caterer for at least part of the meal on the actual day, go to a hotel that night so you aren’t tempted to clean up. You’ll have a great time!
Haha! Love the Mariachi idea!!! Lol 🙂 thanks for all the tips! See, it’s the details I can’t quite wrap my head around yet…like cleaning up dishes and such right before everything happens!
Congratulation!
