The last few days have been a bit of a blur.

It all started with the ending of another week and the beginnings of a whole new chapter in our lives and on our farm with the introduction of our very first milking goats!

Since then, with a whole new routine building, we’ve spent a lot of time down in the goat pen with the Ladies, hand feeding and chin scratching, so they’re slowly getting more comfortable with us, and us with them.

Beside ourselves with excitement (everytime we ask Sprout if she wants to go see the goats she says, “Goats! YAY!”) and so very grateful for the opportunity to be the keepers of the new lives we have brought to this place, we are doing our best to not feel too overwhelmed by the actual weight of caring for these three sweet girls in an honorable and intentional way.

Goats aren’t chickens, they require a bit more upkeep, ya know? 😉

Here’s a bit of what we know about our newest girls:

  • Mama’s name is Carmello (I’m calling her Mama Mello)
  • Mama Mello is two years old, born on May 3, 2013
  • Mama Mello is a first time freshener who gave birth to triplets (!) on March 22, 2015
  • One of those triplets is with us (the bigger girl with the grey and white markings)
  • The other girl (golden with white markings) is a poled doe (meaning, she was born without horns) born on April 15, 2015
  • Mama Mello’s bag is full, though we don’t yet know how much milk she gives because she’s still nursing her girl.  We’re hoping she will be a very good milker since she comes from a good line of milkers.  We’re also hoping her milk will taste absolutely divine!

Now, what we don’t know yet is what to name our two little girls…

And we’re looking for suggestions…

And I really hope you’ll help us with some because you all are smart! 🙂

Maybe a small description of each will help???  Ok, here goes…

  • Both girls are a bit skittish still, though they are beginning to warm up.
  • Mama Mello’s daughter is a light caramel color with white and grey markings.  She’s very sweet and curious, though not as curious as the other girl.  She couldn’t care less about animal crackers.
  • The other girl is golden with white markings, is incredibly curious (she’s usually the first one out of the shed when something’s going on), and absolutely loves animal crackers as a treat.  She has been fairly quiet so far with us, but her previous owner said she was the loudest of all the babies born this spring. Shel’s also the one who was born without horns.

Now that I’ve written it all out, I’m not sure that those few details will help get your brain storming on names for the sweet girls…but maybe…?

Hopefully!

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

xoxo,
M

P.S.

Akuna is now officially in training and is learning, several times a day, how to be in the goat pen with her girls.  She amazes me every single day with her quick ability to learn, her calmness, and her sweet disposition.  She is going to be an amazing guard dog!
