Sundays have become our Family Garden Day, when Kim, Sprout and I are joined by my oldest daughter and/or my little brother for a few morning hours of dedicated garden time.
It started out as a plea for help due to our sheer state of Overwhelm as a direct result of now having
- so.much.garden.space in comparison to our 1/8 acre home in the city
- so.many.weeds to contend with and
- so.little.time after work, house chores, and chasing Sprout
and has evolved into an incredibly enjoyable sharing of space and time.
In exchange for their help each Sunday, they’ll be sent home with harvest baskets once the harvests begin rolling in. In the interim, they’re fed, hydrated, and sent home with a handful of fresh eggs.
So far we have established a few thousand feet of actual bed space, planted about a million seeds and starts, and pulled approximately a billion weeds 😉
With about 75% of the garden in and beginning to germinate, and the bindweed trying to take over every square inch of it (man, that stuff is pervasive and attempting to ruin my precious garden space), our mornings are spent chatting, weeding and sowing a few seeds in succession in an attempt to keep the harvests coming in as long as possible.
I’m not sure I could ask for a better excuse to spend time with my so.very.busy and so.very.helpful family
xoxo,
M
That is so nice!
