I’m practicing being comfortable with imperfection and not getting stuck on details or preconceived notions.
Trust me, this is a practice for me.
Like appreciating the taste of my crostata despite it’s imperfections…or by taking a photo to capture a joyful moment, despite how dirty the glass is…or by releasing past commitments that no longer serve me.
I am, however, as I mentioned earlier this year, determined to simplify our lives and our belongings this year as well as my unrealistic expectations, so practice, I must!
See, I’ve been a bit stuck (OK…quite stuck) in frustration around what I thought our big move might give us vs. some of the challenges we’ve faced since moving here. I had all these visions, all these romantic fantasies of what we might experience and create while here and it seems as though many of those were quite unrelistic.
Some of my frustration is valid, certainly. Some of it, though, (I do have to admit) is of my own making and not really justified.
So, over the weekend, Kim and I spent some time talking about this spring and what little steps we can take to get back on track. We brainstormed how to move forward with planting a garden, what to do about getting the next generation of layers, how to build an indoor vermicomposting setup, and how to begin recycling again on our own instead of waiting for our Landlord to figure out his own system.
Talking about a few of these details and how to continue moving forward on this journey of ours helped a lot.
Simple? Yes. And so very helpful.
And so I am reminded again of our little mantra:
“Do what you can,
with what you have,
where you are.”
There is a way forward, one small step at a time.

M
This must be a theme for many people. I wrote a similar post and have seen this topic from several other over the
Last week. May we all find solace in the imperfections
