After last week’s Kitchen Tour, it seemed only fitting to move into our hacienda’s Dining Room/Office this week 🙂
Now, let me just say that our Dining Room is huge and is not quite complete yet, but is fully functioning as an actual Dining Room as well as pulling double duty as my home office.
How huge is the space? Approximately 19 feet by 12 feet!
Yeah…huge! My guess is that not all hacienda dining rooms are so large, but my knowledge is limited, so don’t hold me to that statement 😉
So, with all that space, we’ve set up three “zones”, if you will:
- The Dining Zone
- The Work Zone
- The Play Zone
The Dining Zone
It kind of speaks for itself, right? However, my favorite thing about our Dining Zone is the actual table. My dad is a carpenter and built this table ~30 years ago as part of a huge project for Plaza Mercado on the Plaza. All built and carved by hand, it’s here to stay for countless generations to come. It’s the only table I remember as where we had our meals as a family and was given to me in my early twenties. It’s survived countless markers, wine stains, and teething babies (you Mommas know what I’m talking about).
The Work Zone
I’m especially excited about my Transformer Desk that Kim found on Craigslist for a whopping $10! At first glance it looks like a normal armoire and then, as if by magic, it opens up to a full on Command Center complete with computers and music and files and even pens and pencils 😉 I love it!
The Play Zone
Of course Sprout needed a space in my “office” to play and her favorite purple rug laid the perfect foundation. Reading and fun abounds!
What do I love about our Dining Room/Office?
- The uneven/wobbly woods floors
- The door to the Living Room that doesn’t really close
- The huge windows that can be sat in and give an awesome view of the (currently cluttered) backyard
- The room to dance with Sprout when I’m over work and the music suits the mood 🙂
What might I change/add to the Dining Room/Office?
So, while we have our table, my desk area and a space for Sprout to play and read in while I get a bit of work done, there is a lot of open space and room for improvement.
For one, I’d love to find a nice side-board! Something with lots of storage space for celebratory dishes and such, plus lots of surface space for large meals and gatherings…especially since there’s not much counter space in the kitchen.
Second, the walls are painted this pale peach color that I could do without. Even straight white would be better. But really, in the grand scheme of things, it could be worse, so I’ll take it.
There you have it! Our very old, yet very new to us Dining Room/Office! Next week I’ll show you the Living Room…and spoiler alert…if you thought the Dining Room and Kitchen were large, wait until you see the madness that is our Living Room!
Now it’s your turn! What do you love or hate about your Dining Room?
xoxo,
M
I LOVE that floor.
