Last weekend, for the first time ever, we officially made our own baby food for Sprout.
It’s funny how the little things can make a Mama so happy, isn’t it?
You know…organic, free from additives, delicious, pure, baby food? Oh yeah! Add to all that Sprout’s gorgeous smile and no matter what’s happening in the world, my heart is full…
So, while there’s no real recipe to follow, the method we used is as follows:
- Skin, de-seed and cube a Butternut Squash
- Steam it on the stove top
- Blend it in the blender (using some of the leftover steaming water if necessary)
- Feed your Little One
- Pour the rest of it into ice cube trays (carefully)
- Freeze it for later meals
- Transfer Butternut Squash cubes into freezer bags labelled with the dates and contents for later consumption

I am a mother of twins and I could not live without the Wean Meister freezer pods. I loved their modern design, but they were super functional! The whole tray is silicone, including the lid, so no freezer burn. They have 9 pods, so 9 meals, each 2.5oz. These trays are BPA free and use a grade of silicone that is actually higher than the FDA grade, making them safer for babies. The food pops out very very easily, which was a huge problem with some other brands. You can get them here: http://www.nurturedsprouts.com
So know how you feel!
Not too long ago, I spent a whole day packing the freezer when we started food combos and proteins. Had a whole bunch of recipes cooked up. Here are some of our faves (if ever you want some inspiration) :
– roasted red bell peppers, basil and navy beans.
– Quinoa, pumpkin and spice
– Tofu, apple, peas and zucchinis
– Carrot, parsnip and red lentils (with a pinch of turmeric)
– Banana, brown rice and fresh Medjool dates
– beets an steamed beat greens
– Chickpeas and roasted cauliflower with a pinch of paprika
…..
I have a million of them! 🙂
Your sprout is soooo cute!
Have a great week-end!
