2013 Seeds & Plans

To be completely honest, buying seeds each spring is both exciting and a little stressful.  I struggle every single year with what exactly to put in the garden and how it will all fit.  At the height of summer, I tend to find myself feeling incredibly proud and excited by all that grows in our tiny space, but now?  Now I just feel overwhelmed by all that I want to do being balanced with what we actually can do.

Luckily, we have lots of seeds from previous years purchases from which to choose from.  However, there were a few things that, when I looked long and hard at our stash, were going to need to be purchased.  While I am patiently waiting for Seed Savers to get their potatoes on their website, the below items pretty much complete our purchases for the year.  Their cost has already been added into our amortized total for this year  which can be found on my sidebar.

Plants of the Southwest

  • Dark Opal Purple Basil
  • Genovese Basil
  • Tomatillos

Seed Savers Exchange

  • Moon & Stars Watermelon
  • Five Color Swiss Chard
  • Butternut Squash
  • Shirofumi Soybeans
  • Tom Thumb Peas
  • Star of David Okra
  • Dwarf Blue Curled Kale
  • Florida High Bush Eggplant
We have reached a point in our garden where everything we grow is organic (even if it is without the trappings of the official “certified organic” seal) and I have this fantasy that, eventually, we will be growing all heirloom varieties.  Not sure when that might happen, but it is a goal 🙂

Since we have run out of space in which to put beds, the goal now is to utilize our beds to their greatest capacity using Companion and Bio-Intensive plantings and by paying close attention to our soil.  I’m still working on our final plans for the year and am not sure where everything will go yet, but here’s the line up for 2013:

  1. Looks like you have a fantastic list of food coming your way! Thanks for linking up your plans on Tuesday Greens!

  2. I know you said that you are waiting for SSE to get their potatoes online. The guy at http://www.kenoshapotato.com/ works closely with SSE. Most of the listings in SSE’s potato section are his this year. You can order directly from him if you want. 🙂

    Good luck with your garden.
