Welp, it’s that time of year again…warm days and chilly evenings followed by snow on the ground and the reminder that it really is still winter, despite the Spring Fever that keeps tempting me to put some seeds in the ground on the sunny days. Soon enough, though…soon enough!
Until then, though, at least our old stand bys can be counted on…
Totals for the past few weeks:
- Mixed greens = 6 oz
- Eggs = 182
We’ve also been eating from our stores…pickles and pickled tomatoes, jam and jellies, soups and beans, tomato sauce and apple sauce, apple pie in a jar. It seems as though we had a bit of a sweet tooth when we were putting things up last season…Which can be good (delicious, actually), but can also pose a challenge when thinking about dinner and not just dessert 😉 And so the learning continues!

Looks like you still have kale? That’s nice. It will be interesting to see if mine survive this winter. With the mild winter last year, the kale survived and took off as soon as spring arrives.

Well, our kale insdie under the grow lights survived, but our kale outside in the hoop house didn’t. I’m hoping for an early start in the greens department in our hoop house, but haven’t yet mastered keeping things alive outside all winter long 🙁

Ah yes, kids are *very* good at eating up the sweet stuff! I made cookies the other day and my daughter ate more than half the batch before the end of the night!

Me too! They’re my favorite! We generally get more pink and brown eggs with a few blue and green ones thrown in…I really just love the variety we get from our hens! So much fun!

Happy blogiversary! Greens are something anyway and I would give a tooth… (A specific one) for some canned apples right now! That is if it were my apple trees they’d come from. LOL. I have 6 trees and nary a pip from them!

Thanks Barbie! I am definitely grateful for all of our canned apples! Some came from our two trees and a lot came from a friends house 🙂 I will keep my fingers crossed for a bountiful apple harvest for you this year!

Your hens lay such a lovely mix of colors – almost as much fun to look at as to eat! Thank goodness for our winter greens. Mine are looking a little tired at this point because my hens keep getting into them, but they are still going. Luckily I have the early spring starts going in the house and so replacements are soon coming.

I still get excited every time I collect our eggs! They’re just so fun to look at 🙂 Our chickens keep getting into my garlic bed, so I often look like a crazy lady chasing them around the yard! Silly chickens 😉
