After several weeks of temperatures dipping into the 40s at night, last night was forecasted to officially reach 32 degrees.
So, upon my arrival home from a work conference yesterday (full of inspiration, exhaustion and time spent with beloved colleagues), we harvested all that was ready…
We then pulled out the plastic for our two backyard hoop houses and some freeze cloth for a few of our slow-moving heirloom tomatoes still incredibly heavy with green instead of the yellows and oranges they aspire to become.
We surrendered the rest to the “it will be whatever it’s going to be” way of thinking with mixed emotions.
Alas, the low only hit 34 last night and it might dip down to 33 tonight. The rest of this coming week, the lows will hover right around 40. Not warm enough to encourage any warm veggie growth, but not necessarily deadly either.
Ah well…Winter is coming, whether I like it not…might as well prep a little at a time, ha?
Such nice produce! I like the hoop houses. I has similar ones a couple years ago. They remind me of covered wagons….
Ha! I call them covered wagons all the time! I love them 😉
Oh yay! I’m so glad it made its way to you!!! Thanks so much for participating in the project!
