Seeds & Soon-To-Be-Sprouts

I may be getting a bit ahead of myself here, but I’m longing for spring and feeling like testing a few boundaries.  Since we have our grow lights in place, happily helping along our greens, some herbs and even a few bush beans, I figured it was worth a little experimentation in tomatoes and peppers as well.

I planted 3 seeds in each little pod of the following:
  • Yellow Taxi Tomatoes
  • Brandywine Tomatoes
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Bi-Color Cherry Tomatoes
  • Mystery Tomatoes (small, sweet, red, cherry)
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • Jalapeno
  • Mystery Bell Pepper (black outside, green inside, semi-sweet)

Now we just water, wait and see how well they all do…maybe, just maybe, we’ll have some fruits earlier in the summer than usual?

    Oh, honestly, who can blame you for starting a wee bit early! I’m itching to start some seeds too. Now if only I could finalize my seed catalog order, which needs some drastic narrowing down 😉

      Seed catalogs! Oh my! Can you believe I have completely ignored them this year? I have avoided them so as not not spend a ton of money on wants instead of needs…and oh my…it’s been super hard…it’s almost like an addiction!!! This year I just made a list of needs and will buy them locally this year (except for our potatoes, those will come from Seed Savers Exchange).

      Good luck narrowing your list down! If I had it my way, I’d pretty much order everything in the dang catalog 😉

    I love!love! your blog! I recently spent hours traveling down your “rabbit-trail” of subjects and photos. It’s amazing and inspiring what you’re doing with 1/8th acre. What are your little seed starting pods called? I’d like to find some just like them.

      OH! Thank you so much for finding me!!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey 🙂 The pods I used for the peppers & tomatoes were bought as a set called the Jiffy Tomato Greenhouse. You can find them at most garden stores. They also have a shorter version for other seedlings (these are deeper to allow for the crazy tomato roots to take hold).

    i think you win the award for earliest nightshades this year! last year i started some seeds on around jan. 29, and continued to do more batches of super-early planting–some of them worked out. i had my first ripe tomatoes in may. this year i’m holding off–the spring gardening bug still hasn’t bitten me!

    good luck with your babies. i hope they give you lots of nice early fruit.

      Ha! I’ll take that award with a big fat smile 😉 I can totally deal with tomatoes in May if my little seeds decide to give’em to me!
