Happy Monday everyone!
We’ve got some more greens to report this week! Enough to actually make a couple of small salads! I checked on our wagons again and things are looking steadily better, I even poked my finger around a few carrots and they seem to be sizing up nicely 🙂 I restrained myself from picking a few, but my patience is wearing a bit thin! Maybe a couple more weeks and I can have a little snack? My fingers are officially crossed!
A couple of our mixed greens under our grow lights are starting to flower, which probably means they’re getting a little toasty under there! We’re still playing with the distance between the flats and the lights, but it has made for some pretty little flowers in January!
This weeks totals:
- Spinach = 1.5 ounce
- Mixed Greens = 1.5 ounce
- Kale = .5 ounce
- Eggs = 18
What pretty flowers! Nice looking harvest too!

Pretty green and flower. It is really hard to resist not to pull out some carrots eh;-). I be very tempted too.
The greens and eggs look delicious. I think we all have a hard time leaving the baby carrots alone – it’s the hidden treasure aspect of a crop you cannot really see until it is harvested.
I too find it so hard not to pull a few of those first young carrots! Nice harvest of greens…yum!
Glad to hear I’m not alone!!! This waiting game is driving me a bit nutty 😉
beautiful flowers. We have our fingers crossed on root veggies too. I can’t wait. I think we might try lights next year for more greens during the winter.
Thanks! I highly recommend growing greens under grow lights if you can! It definitely helps takes the edge off of winter when you can harvest a bit of green from time to time!
Maybe you could just pick one….cue maniacal laughter……or you could do as you have been doing and show admirable self restraint.
Oh Liz, why must you torture me so?! 😉
Wonderful light and details in these photos.
Happy MM
You are doing GREAT! We still have some broccoli growing but that is about all. Love your green eggs. I look for them at the farmers’ market each week and sometimes I am lucky. Most of the time I am not. Loved your photos.genie
Thanks! Man, I wish we still had broccoli, we got so little on our first try! I will try again though 🙂 Do you know any tricks?
A very beautiful harvest this week. Everything looks great! You eggs look great, such a great color variation. Hold off a little longer on the carrots. I always check mine and think okay they are ready and pick the first one and dang! Too small 🙂
Thanks! I’m trying to hold out on those carrots as I know it will be worth the wait 🙂
Those look like bok choy flowers, if so they are edible, I toss them in with other vegetables during a stir-fry.
OH! Thanks Norma! I never would have to eat them! How wonderful 🙂
Those first carrots are so addictive. Hold back as long as you can. Or, like me you’ll be picking them every chance you get! 😉
Ha! I’m trying to hold out, not sure I can make any promises though 😉
Nice salad grrens and pretty flowers, but what I like best is eggs from your own chickens!
Happy Monday!
