With the sun shining brightly above us and no more freezing temperatures forecast for at least the next several days, ice crystals and snow seem so very far away…but I know they’re coming (and am hopeful they’ll make for some more beautiful photos)!
Well, after much family discussion, we’ve decided to jump in to Crunchy Chicken’s Freeze Yer Buns Challenge!!!
Our goal is to keep the thermostat at 65 degrees while we’re home in the mornings, evenings and on the weekends and to keep it lowered to 52 degrees during the day while we’re at work and at night while we’re cozy in our beds. This is down from our past winters of 68 and 55. We have a programmable thermostat, which makes it a bit easier to manage (we have it pre-set to come on or go off at specific times), but I have a feeling that we will be practicing the art of layering our clothes this winter!
The challenge officially runs from November 1, 2011 until April 1, 2012 and we are hoping to not only reduce our carbon footprint over the next 6 months, but to also save a bit of cash. Win, win! Sweet!

I’ll post tidbits and learning moments as they come up and who knows, maybe we’ll even have a bit of fun in the process!

Kelly! Nice! I’m so glad you’ve jumped on board! We can Freeze our Buns together, from a distance 😉 BTW-Happy Birthday, Friend! Hope you’re having a spectacular day!!!
We did this all the time growing up. Still, when I go to my parent’s house, the thermostat is never higher than 62. It’s chilly but we have tons of cozy blankets, warm beverages, and we wear coats most of the time inside. Some people think its strange but you get used to it, save money, and even grow to enjoy it.
