I have said
before that everything in the garden is not always wonderful or pretty. Sometimes there are mutant toes, sometimes crops fail, sometimes the creatures take over, sometimes things are just plain gross.
Each evening when I get home from work I do a walk through of the yard. I love to see how big each veggie/plant has grown throughout the day (it really is crazy to see how much something can grow over the course of one single day), check on the chickens, gather eggs and plan where the next planting is going to go. i thoroughly look forward to my evening walk throughs
Last night was a rough night in Garden Land.
To start off, something was eating my tomatoes.
Not one something…
But two somethings, to be exact! Gross.
I gave them both to the chickens, who seemed very confused by the big worms that landed in their coop.
Then, while checking on the kale I noticed that three of my plants looked like death warmed over, while the one that has already gone to seed still looked fantastic! What?!
Upon further inspection, I noticed an invasion was underway. Really gross!
Stinkin’!!! So, I put on my gloves, pulled all three plants and threw them to the birds! The ladies were very excited about the kale and the protein.
Last…but not least…was the dead mouse laying right in the path. Not sure what happened to it. It just died. Right in the middle of my path. Really, really gross!!!
While I am happy to have living creatures in a yard that used to only consist of rocks, cat pee and dead junipers, I’d prefer to not have to deal with the gross kind of living (and dead) creatures. Oh well…such is the life of an urban “farmer”.
Cheers!
