Alright, so in all of my searches for “how to plant peanuts” and “how to start peanuts inside” all I’ve found is “Plant seeds from shelled raw peanuts 1 to 3 inches deep”. Well, I did that and I got this…
About half of the peanuts have spouted right-side-up and about half of them came squirming to the surface like something out of an Alien movie.
So, after being gone most of the day, I came home to find the roots of the upside-down guys all dried up (duh!) so I pulled out all the aliens and packed some more soil around the right-side-up sprouts and am hopeful they will be just fine. Luckily, I originally planted 2 peanuts per section, so even though about half of them were lost, I still have my original 25 plants growing to fill my bed out once I transplant these little guys outside (around May 26).
Now, if I could just figure out which way to put the peanuts in the dirt/ground in the future so this doesn’t happen again, we’ll be all set. I’ll experiment and let you know what I figure out. Cheers!
