Garden Happiness & Harvest Monday

Garden Happiness & Harvest Monday

Happy Monday, everyone!

I am incredibly happy to report that this week has brought us a variety of small and delicious harvests!  But first, let’s look at how a few things are growing…

The cucumbers and bush beans are doing very well!  The cukes aren’t yet reaching for their support, but they do all have their true leaves.

The tomatillos are growing in leaps and bounds with each of them (there are two) already holding countless flowers!  I am very excited about making and canning lots of tomatillo salsa this year!

Our squash has popped!  This is exciting because I was a little late getting it in, but now it is officially here 😉

This is one of 18 tomatoes scattered throughout the front and back yards.  It is surrounded by onions and protected by goofy dogs.
We also have a rose mystery on our hands!  I am hoping there is some wisdom out there that can helps us make sense of it all!  Thoughts?

Alright, onto the harvests!!!

Harvest totals for the week:
  • Mint = 1 oz
  • Mixed Greens = 4 oz
  • Radishes (Easter Egg) = 4 oz
  • Snap Peas = 1 oz
  • Strawberries = 11 oz
  • Eggs = 76
Also…did you know that Roly Polies (Pill Bugs) love strawberries? Apparently they do…they’re our biggest competition this year in the strawberry patch!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Happy harvesting!
xoxo

Love the colors of your radishes! I just wish I liked radishes! Just to try them. You have some good stuff going on. Glad your squash is on its way! I planted mine super early inside to try to get a head start ahead of the squash bugs and borers!

I too have bill bugs in my garden but I leave them alone and hope they do not do much damage. Love how you arrange and photographed your radishes, very artistic.

I haven’t had a problem with pill bugs in my garden (haven’t seen one) but they are in my worm composter (in the basement, yech). Sluggo Plus adds an ingredient (spinosad) that works to control pill bugs and earwigs as well as slugs, and it is safe even for goofy dogs.

That happened to my strawberries, too! I thought slugs were the culprits, now I’m not so sure. Must be nice to get fresh eggs!

Pill bugs eat everything in my garden, they are (sometimes) one of the worst pests for me. But they’re beneficial too, they eat mostly decomposing plant material and help to convert it to soil humus, so I let them have at it in my compost.

    The doggie patrol is cute!

I think the goofy dog patrol is sweet! The orange and yellow variegated rose on the right may well be a Jacob’s Coat rose. It grows in a bush form and is covered by blooms that change color as the blooms mature and unfold (a coat of many colors).
