Watermelon Seeds!

Alright, so maybe growing watermelon in the high desert isn’t the best idea, but they’re so incredibly good!  There really is no proper substitute on a hot summer day!

We’ve tried to grow watermelon a couple of times with no luck.  I think it might have been a mixture of our super poor (past) soil and some bad (old) seeds.  Regardless, it was sad.  I had pretty much given up on the idea until a couple of weeks ago when Tool Lady and Fish Girl started talking about watermelon again. Mmmmm…watermelon…

Well, much to my delight, about the same time, I began chatting with Jaime @ Ngo Family Farm about a little seed exchange!  So, I sent her some tomato seeds and she sent me some watermelon seeds wrapped up in this beautiful little card!

I am very hopeful that these little (beautiful, new and sent with kindness & good intention) will thrive in our little yard and give us a couple of delicious watermelons at the end of the season 🙂
Thank you, Jaime!

There is nothing better that home grown melons. We love them so much that the store bought melons no longer hold any appeal. We just hold out for the good stuff when August rolls around then go without the rest of the year!!

Yes! That is how I’m starting to think about lots of items in the garden! If only more people could taste the deliciousness of eating fresh fruits and veggies then everyone would be growing their own! 🙂

You’re as sweet as a juicy watermelon! 😉 My germination rate for them was pretty good, so I’m really hoping they work for you (plant extra, though!)

P.S. You also have a lot more forethought than me, as I didn’t even take a picture of your tomato seeds – I was so anxious to get them in the soil ASAP, lol.

Ha! I don’t know if it was forethought as much as falling in love with the beautiful colors of those seeds! 🙂 I will definitely plant more than I think I’ll need and I’m planning to plant them in a couple of different spots in the yard and where they grow best. Thank you again for the seeds! We’re all very excited about their potential 🙂

What a wonderful post! Thanks for making my day! I’ve been trying to get my melon seeds planted for several weeks now, so might take a day off from the day job to get them in the ground before I run short of growing season 😉 Best of luck with yours!

Hope you’ve gotten those seeds in the ground! Or, at least planned a day off to do so 🙂

How cool! Can’t wait to see how it comes out. And you are so right, there is nothing better on a hot day than ice cold, sweet, watermelon. Mmmm…

It really is amazing how something so simple can be so delicious! My fingers are crossed!
