Itty Bitty Fruit

Itty Bitty Fruit

Well, it looks like we just might have made it through this last little cold snap OK.  Everything that’s in the garden so far seems unharmed by the freezing temps we had the last few nights and for at least the next week our lowest low is supposed to be 38 degrees.  SWEET!  My main concern was the fruit trees and, really, they have never looked better!  They’ve only been in the ground for a couple of years so this is the first year we could get a real harvest…and they’re looking amazing!  So many itty bitty fruits starting to pop all over the place!!!

Pears…

 Cherries…

Apricots…

Apples (which seem to be a bit behind the rest of the fruit trees, but are doing beautifully as well)…

Do you have fruit trees?  How are they handling the interesting weather that seems to be happening…well…everywhere?

Aw, so beautiful to see baby fruit. It’s like being a proud mama. 🙂

I’m glad that the cold didn’t affect the fruiting. Woohoo!

WooHoo is right!!! I am definitely a proud mama! I heard on the weather the other day that they think we might be done with freezing temps…my fingers sure are crossed that she was right!!!

As usual, our apricot blossoms were mostly blown off. We always get horrible wind in March. Our cherry tree is full of blossoms, and our apple tree will be flowering soon. (Our apple tree is always the last to go.) Then, it will be the blackberry bushes (if I get them cleaned up this weekend!

Oh…blackberries! I hope to be able to grow some of those someday 🙂 We planted a bush a couple of years ago but it completely failed 🙁

I haven’t had the heart to go look at our apples. We hit 26 degrees last week when they were in full bloom. I don’t have much hope for fruit. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
    Your little fruits look great!

It all looks great — our orchard I am concerned for. We dipped again last night with a frost and I hear there is another one coming this weekend :/

Oh, Allison! I’m keeping you and your orchard in my thoughts! I hope they all wind up being OK!!!

Everything looks great over there. I have a big pear tree that had more flowers than I have ever seen. (I canned 57 cans of pears last year.) But it has Japanese rust on it. I don’t know if I will get anything off it. I have gotten a solution from a local old timer. I am going to try it.

It just makes me want to cry when I look at my tree all covered with fruit and every one of the fruits are bright orange from that disgusting rust.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that! What is Japanese Rust?! Can you do anything to make it go away safely???
