Happy Monday, everyone!
There seems to be lots happening in the yard suddenly! The peas are peeking, the rhubarb is huge (well, huge to me…it’s never gotten this big this fast before), the fruit trees have all blossomed out and are beginning to get some leaves, our raised beds/hoop houses are full of greens and beets and carrots (although I haven’t had much time to get out there and harvest as much of it as I’d like to because…there are now 5 new raised beds in our backyard! Yep, I mentioned last week we were making plans and well…it all just kind of came together over the weekend! I’ll post more about this later but there’s now 105 additional square feet of growing space in our backyard 🙂
Aside from some snow and rain early last week that scared me for my fruit trees (we didn’t actually get a hard freeze, so it’s OK), we’ve had some more beautiful weather! Everything (including myself) has been tricked into thinking it’s later in the season than it is. If the weather maintains, and we don’t get any hard freezes, it will be an amazing growing year here at 6800 feet! However, we could still see snow into next month and everything could wilt under the cold of it all. I could really go for some more moisture, but am really hoping it will continue to come in the form of rain and leave the snow behind us for the year 🙂
Anyhow, onto the harvests!

This weeks totals:
- Beet Greens = 1 ounce
- Chard = 7 ounces
- Spinach = 3 ounces
- Kale = 6 ounces
- Turnips = 2 ounces
- Eggs = 31
Lol…yes…this time of year I get so excited about what to grow and how much and on and on…then, about mid-summer, I get a little tired of it all…the watering, the weeding, the responsibility. Good thing the veggies are so good, they keep me going 🙂
New beds are always exciting. Personally I have plenty now, but at my last garden I was always pushing for space. I so wanted more. Now sometimes I want less lol.
Very exciting to have new growing beds to work with! Your peas are essentially at the same stage as mine. There full out emergence is the real starting bell for spring in my garden – so I am thrilled to see them out in force this past week.
Yes, I do believe that spring has officially sprung 🙂 Enjoy!!!
Great job on getting more space to plant! I have space, it’s just getting it into shape that is the big chore!
Oh yes…getting the spaces into shape! I’m already thinking that there’s too much to do to get ready for full on planting…I have to remind myself, though, that there’s still a full month ahead of me for prep work 🙂
I would love some additional growing space – looking foward to finding out where yours came from. Lovely seedlings you have there.
Do you have anywhere to expand? Soon it will be time for planning next years garden, yes? Hmmm…possibilities?

Wow, more garden space, that’s so exciting. We are badly in need of moisture also and I too hope it comes in the form of rain and not snow.
It seems that those of us who don’t have the moisture we need keep getting stiffed and those that don’t need the moisture just keep getting it! I hope it turns around! We are supposed to get rain/snow tonight…I’ll be happy with the moisture, but just hope it comes in the form of rain…
Your pea seedlings look just like mine. So cute. But I’m at sea level in southern California, so this is my second planting. Can hardly wait to see your new beds planted. I have a raised bed that needs building. I keep hoping that it will build itself, but…. So far that hasn’t happened. I need Tool Girl!
Lol…yeah…we all need a Tool Lady, don’t we?! Good luck getting your bed built…I will be thinking building thoughts for you 😉 Man, I wish I was on my second sowing of peas…I can hardly wait!
Wow, amazing you still have over-wintered carrots, do you remember when you sow the seeds? I’ll have to try it later this year.

Hi Mac! I sowed the carrots in several plantings between August 24 and October 13. I think I started too late though as they’re all still pretty small. I think I’ll start earlier in the summer this year 🙂
