MATERIALS:
Any recycled material with words printed on it (magazines, newspapers, cereal boxes, toy packaging), glue, two pieces of paper or cardboard to glue your letters and words to.
TIME FRAME:
45 – 60 minutes
PROCEDURE:
- Collect all of your materials and think about what you would like to write about…a landscape, a specific animal, your relationship with nature…anything related to the environment or a note to the environment!
- On one piece of paper, begin writing your note.
- Once you are happy with what you’ve written, begin cutting out the words and letters in your note from your various recycled materials.
- Once all of your words have been cut out, begin gluing them to your paper in order, just as they were originally written.
- Don’t forget to “sign” your note with your name and the date it was written!
REFLECTION:
How did you like this activity? Why do you think it might be important to write a note about the environment? How did you like using recycled materials to create your note? What other could you have used or could you use in the future?
TIPS:
If you plan ahead, you can write your note first, then slowly collect the words to your note from a variety of sources over time. You can simply cut them out as you find them and place them in an envelope until you are ready to put your note together. You can also use this method to write letters or poems about anything you’d like!

Each individuals handwriting is very unique! Did you know that there are people called Graphologists who make their living analyzing people’s handwriting!? Pretty cool, ha?
