Life begins…

Life begins…

The last couple of months have been a whirlwind around here.

Self imposed chaos, yes.  But chaos none-the-less.

In August, we were sitting comfortably on the couch in the Living Room of our Urban Farm preparing for…well, not a whole lot.  The garden was winding down, the chickens were happy, the apple trees were heavy with this year’s abundance and Sprout was crawling around happily.

Everything was calm, happy, and just as it should be.

Then, we saw an opportunity and suddenly decided to move.

Pack up, patch up, paint, put our wonderful home on the market, all to take up residence in an old hacienda on ~6 acres just 20 minutes north of my hometown.

It was an absolute leap of faith.

And yes, it was a bit (a lot?) crazy.

But here’s the thing, we were stuck.  Comfortable, yes, and totally stuck.

We always knew that our Urban Farm was not going to be our Forever Home, but our (maximum) Five Year Plan got extended to a Six Year Plan, then a Seven Year Plan, and we were stuck.

We accomplished a lot, don’t get me wrong, but we were definitely stuck.

We had visions of where we would like to live eventually…

We had dreams of what we might do and how we might do it all…

But it was all so very far away because of all of the conscious and sub-conscious blocks we’d placed in our own way.

So, when faced with the opportunity to move, we jumped on it.

Yes, we thought about it, but maybe not as much as others might have or as much as we maybe should have, because it was the next step on the path towards our dreams…

And before then, we couldn’t even see the path…

All we could see was where we were and where we wanted to be eventually.

And without a middle ground to stand on, or even imagine, our dreams, day after day, felt farther and farther away.

And so here we sit, surrounded by peace and quite.

We sit with a million possibilities before us…

Some exciting, others terrifying…

But millions possibilities none-the-less.

Life begins... (chickens)

So, now what?

What’s the next step now that we’ve taken the leap and are patiently waiting for some of the dust to settle around us?

Well, we get settled.

We pull in for the cold months.

We make plans for the systems that must be put into place in our new space (build an official chicken coop, establish a compost area, negotiate land use, prep the soil for next spring, learn all about flood irrigation, etc.)…

We sit in this space of growth and newness, excitement and uncertainty…

We let our new foundation cure beneath our feet…

And we hope against all hope that this crazy whirlwind of self-imposed chaos is exactly what we needed to get us on the right path towards our future.

Towards our dreams.

“We may place blame, give reasons, and even have excuses; but in the end, it is an act of cowardice to not follow your dreams.” ~ Steve Maraboli
