Herbs, Herbs, Everywhere Herbs!

Herb Harvest

Welp, last Friday I finally spent some real, glorious, much needed time out in the garden! Sprout happily gnawed on fresh beans and I just puttered around until we were both hot, hungry and tired. It was absolutely divine!

During my time outside, I finally decided to give our poor herb bed a little TLC. I really hadn’t realized how horribly over grown it all had become! Some of it was going to seed, some of it was laying down over other herbs, some of it was just happy as can be!

So, I took some scissors and just started hacking away!

30 minutes later I was blessed with multiple piles of glorious herbs to add to my beautifully cured (though itty bitty) garlic!

While I didn’t weigh anything (I know, I know, not really sure what I was thinking), I did come in the house with lots of lemon balm, thyme, sage, oregano, and dill!

Then, at the end of the day, I decided to go into the front yard and whack back our basil and mint which have also been a bit neglected as of late! I did weigh these and came up with ~a pound of each.

While I was at it, I thought I should check on the tomatoes and guess what?! Yep, I harvested our very first Yellow Taxi tomatoes of the year! Six little tomatoes weighing in at 1 pound, 2 ounces! There really is nothing like a homegrown tomato!

Needless to say, with the weeds under control and the garden starting to really produce, I’ll be spending much more time out there enjoying myself.

That is the point, isn’t it?

Now, do tell…How is your garden growing?

xoxo,
M

That is a great photo of all your herbs arranged on the table. I was slow to get my garden going this spring, but now I have an overabundance of slicing cucumbers, potatoes, basil waiting to be pesto-fied, and a trickle of ripening tomatoes. Thanks for the post. Cheers!

All of my herbs have been going to seed as well, and my garlic was also on the small side (smaller than yours, it appears).

Some of my garlic varieties were pretty small this year too. I’m going to plant only the largest bulbs this fall in the hopes of getting bigger ones next year. For herbs, one pound of anything is a HUGE amount! I weighted my dill because I thought it was a “big” harvest and it only added up to .06 lbs.

Oh Daphne, I have *so many plans! Stay tuned 😉
