Strawberries!!!

We had our first real strawberry harvest late last week!

Strawberry Harvest

After a very long day at work, when I was ready to, literally, get in bed by 7:00, Kim found them and called me outside.  Is there a better way to cap off such a day than with 10 ounces of juicy, ripe, gorgeously red strawberries?  It’s amazing how wonderful a few strawberries can make a simple bowl of cereal!  Add some raw, local milk on top and it’s absolute heaven!

2014 Strawberry Patch in June

Strawberries

Our strawberry patch itself is doing really well this year!  So far, it’s looking like this just might be our best strawberry year yet! With so much new growth, a thousand flowers and a ton of tiny green wanna-bes, my fingers are crossed they’ll all make it onto our plates 🙂  We’re thinking we’ll let the strawberries take over what remains of that bed because doing so will turn that whole little piece of our yard into a perennial garden with echinacea, grapes, strawberries and rhubarb!

Additionally, we were gifted with the very first cherries of the year on the same evening!  Just an ounce or two, and there are not many more on the tree, but it is still young so I have hope for future years!

First 2014 Cherries

I do hope things are picking up in your gardens!  Have you had an “first” harvests this week?  Please tell me about them in the comments 🙂

xoxo,
M

We have our first few cherries on our tree this year too. It is a Northstar. I hope they turn pink before the birds find them!

Beautiful strawberries! We have a few berry plants from the previous owners. They need some serious tending to, however. There are some little green strawberries that’ll never ripen and make it to my kitchen if I don’t do something about protecting them from the birds & deer. Thankfully, our veggie garden is growing beautifully.

Yum!! All those strawberries look delicious. I need to get some strawberries planted. I sadly moved and left my strawberries behind.

Looking good! We had our first strawberries this week as well, though not as many as you. We are looking forward to a lot more this week!

Lovely strawberries. I’m starting to pick them too. Sadly no cherries in my yard.
