Decisions

It’s been a full month and we still haven’t decided what to do with these two cuties.

We don’t want/don’t have the space, time, need, or wherewithal to keep both of them as bucks so we’ve been waiting to see what their personalities are before making a final decision.

Regardless, to keep one or both of them, we’d need to build out a new space for him/them to keep them separate from Mama, Lucy, and Ethel (to avoid stinky milk and stressed/impregnated girls/incest).

To keep both, we’d also need to decide who to keep intact and who to turn into a wether with the only reason to keep one intact being if we decide he’d be a good sire for Lucy’s kids.

The other alternative is to keep neither…to either sell them off (intact or as pets) or to turn them into sustenance.

Ugh…my heart aches with the decision making here but we have to be realistic about time, space, and money because our intention in keeping goats is for their milk.

Thoughts, opinions, experiences, lessons learned, and virtual hugs are welcome, but please, please, please be kind.

Thank you, Karen! And yes, they are *so cute!

I’d be tempted to use them as food for my family…but that won’t make you money…unless you were able to sell them as prepared food for others? When they were born I didn’t think about them being boys and the impact they would have….

We’re still not quite sure what to do…and honestly, we didn’t think that having two boys would be an option…we were really hoping for girls. Ah well. Live and learn, right?!

I say sell them, then the burden of decision is not on you. I know it is passing the buck…hahaha…sorry I couldn’t help myself. In all seriousness, I am sure there are plenty of people that would want them as pets or to use as sires. I am sure you will make the right decision for your family.
