I am currently re-reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, a book drenched in history with deep, rich, story-telling…and Vampires.
I have been searching for a book to read for what feels like forever, and have started several that I just couldn’t quite get into. They all required too much thinking and what I really wanted was to just dive into a story and be enveloped by it. So, when I remembered how much I enjoyed The Historian when it first came out in 2009, I figured it would be a safe bet…and it has been 🙂
I have also just begun my very first Granny Square Blanket!
I know, I know, you must be shaking your head at my 39 year old ridiculousness…and yet here I sit, finally branching out and trying something new.
Using a few old skeins of yarn, I’m noticing my whole color scheme here is looking a bit like Autumn…interesting and unintentional, yet warm and comforting none-the-less. I’m not ready for summer to be over (it’s only just begun!), but it is my favorite season.

1. Before I read, I spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out what ground cover was in the background. 😉 2. I’m not a huge fan of vampire novels (though I’ve read a couple I enjoyed). Do you still recommend this?

1) Ha! I wish my ground cover would grow so orderly 😉 2) I still recommend it! It’s more historically flowery with wonderful imagery, great intrigue, and just a bit of vampirism 🙂
I just love granny square blankets. They grow real fast and are great for gift giving. I like the colors you are using too. It reminds me of sunflowers.

Melissa! I have over 80 books on my audible account and several of them grabbed me right away with no extra brain effort on my part. I listen to books while I work (I’m a house cleaner), so I get to “read” all the time. Lately I’ve been really into John Irving. The Cider House Rules is one of my favorite books of all time and A Prayer for Owen Meanie is really good too. You will wish these stories would never end. Mostly I read non-fiction though, and I love farming memoirs, so The Dirty Life, Hit by a Farm, and Farm City are my favorites in that category. Big Magic is considered “self help” but I think every creative person would benefit from reading it. It offers such a brilliant perspective on making things and it’s a quick and short read. There are so many more but I will stop at that. Right now I’m making a sign for my yoga instructor for her class. I cut the letters out of fabric from scraps of material and old clothes. Thank you for your posts. I love them.
